Internship

Well it would seem almost coincidental that I heard back from that internship shortly after posting about not hearing back from them. Cool stuff. So I wasn’t really sure if I’d want to take it or not since it is, you know, an unpaid internship. Run mainly by students. On campus. And it takes 16 hours a week. And I had a girlfriend that I talked to every day. However, since some personal stuff has come up with my girlfriend’s parents I know have a wide-open schedule. Well, except for classes. I still have to figure out how I’ll get a 16 hour internship to fit into my class schedule (12:30 to 4:30 perhaps?) but I’ll try to work out something.

So anyway I get all dressed up, fully prepared to quite possibly turn them down and say I’m no longer interested, and walk to their offices in MMTH. When I get there, I begin to melt. It was amazing. I was especially impressed in seeing their team room. Wow. I could hear my passion telling me “I wanna work here!!!”

However the thing that really sold me was the people. And the testimonies given by their student employees. They all had great stuff to say about it. And that potential cross-country trip to job shadow does sound pretty amazing. Gosh, the thought of going to Washington to job shadow Valve’s Steam web design team is jaw-drop-inducing. I belong there. So what if I don’t get paid? This truly sounds like a great opportunity. Their work is amazing and I feel like I’m right on par and would fit right in.

And I think they like me! I really think that they are going to hire me on. She did warn that they only hire on about 10-12 people per semester, so it’d be very competitive — BUT, she kept showing me around, introducing me to several people, and the most tell-tale sign of all was this: she asked them to give me advice about working there. It was like she already had it in her head that she was going to hire me.

I really like all of the people there. They all seem so nice and sociable. It really seems like a great work environment. I do wish I hadn’t said I’d be willing to work another semester if they couldn’t take me on this one, though :/ I don’t want to seem desperate and I’d really like to work there this semester. I guess we’ll see if my confidence is in vain or not! Wish me luck, guys, and keep me in your prayers! :)
